Become a Resource Directory Ambassador

And Earn an Income While Making a Difference

Join our Ambassador Programme and transform your network into a powerful source of income, while helping your community access life-changing information.

As an Ambassador, you earn 30% commission for every Directory you sell. Plus, whenever you’ve sold 30 copies, your next order will be invoiced for one book less, allowing you to keep 100% of the profit on that bonus copy!

Not only will you generate real income, you will also help more South Africans access essential, empowering information to build stronger families, communities and institutions across the country.

Everything You Need to Know to Get Started

How it Works

Step 1: Buy a Copy for Yourself

You must first own your own copy of the Resource Directory – it is the best way to understand its power and value. If you haven’t yet, order it here.

Step 2: Register

Complete the Ambassador Registration Form at the bottom of this page. It includes a section where you can place your first bulk order:

  • 10 books – ideal for testing the waters
  • 20 books – ideal for word-of-mouth, social media and personal network sales
  • 30 books – ideal for event sales, e.g. at fairs, markets and community events

Once you’ve registered and selected your first bulk order quantity you’ll receive an invoice for one book less than your order. This first extra copy must be used for promotional or media purposes – e.g. shared with a journalist, local radio station, influencer or potential bulk buyer.

You’ll also receive a link to join the Ambassador WhatsApp group, where you’ll find product images and ads, and can get quick answers to your questions.

Step 3: Pay the Deposit

Once you receive our invoice, pay the required deposit of R1,000 per 10 books ordered. Your invoice will be credited with the deposit you pay. The balance will be due 30 days from the date of invoice.

Step 4: Promote the Book

  • Use the images and ads in the Ambassador WhatsApp group to promote the Resource Directory to your network via WhatsApp and your social media pages.
  • We’re here to support you. We can create ads, edit your messages or brainstorm strategy if you’re tackling a prospective client that could lead to a large sale. Just ask!
  • Do whatever it takes to get the book in front of people – see the next section.
Selling at Fairs, Markets & Community Events

The book sells itself when people engage with it. We’ve seen time and again that physical contact with the book is far more effective than any advertisement about it.

That’s why we sponsor one table or booth per month for every Ambassador at a market, fair or community event of your choosing. You decide where best to reach people – a busy book fair, a Saturday farmers’ market, a social justice event or a school expo. You make the booking, send us the details, and we’ll pay the fee.

Some markets charge as little as R150. Bigger ones may charge R500 or more. Some charge a percentage of sales. Either way, we cover it for one day a month. (Conditions apply: see ‘The Small Print.’)

You just show up with the books and sell. One well-chosen event could be all you need to sell your entire order. You decide whether it’s worth your while to pay for additional days yourself.

What Makes This Worthwhile?

As an Ambassador, you keep 30% of the price the buyer pays (“selling price”) for each Directory you sell – whether that’s the full cover price or an approved promotional price on the day.

Examples

  • 1st Edition (R375 cover): you earn R112.50 per book → 10 books = R1,125; 30 books = R3,375.
  • Promo example (R250 special): you earn R75 per book → 10 books = R750; 30 books = R2,250.
  • Anticipated 2nd Edition (R495 cover): you earn R148.50 per book → 10 books = R1,485; 30 books = R4,455.

Notes: “Selling price” = the cover price or an approved promotional price at an event. Most Ambassadors aren’t VAT-registered, so payouts are simply 30% of the selling price. If you are VAT-registered, please tell us so we can handle your payout correctly.

  • Freebies. You’ll be invoiced for one book less on your first order and for every subsequent order after you’ve sold 30 copies. The first extra free copy must be used for promotional or media purposes, so people know where to reach you if they’re interested in placing an order. You may sell subsequent free copies for 100% profit or use them to attract more media attention or to secure a bulk corporate or government order.
  • No hidden costs. We pay the courier delivery costs on all your orders of 10 or more copies. No extra fees are deducted from your earnings.
  • Extra support. We sponsor one table or booth per Ambassador for one day each month to help you reach wealthy or well-connected audiences at any open-air market, fair or community event of your choosing. You decide where best to reach people: a busy book fair, a Saturday farmers’ market, a social justice event or a school expo. You make the booking, send us the details, and we’ll pay the fee.
  • Extra, easy commission. Any order via our website that mentions your name in response to the question: ‘Where did you hear about the Resource Directory?’ will earn you a 30% commission.
  • Reduced risk. We’ve built in reasonable levers to protect our Ambassadors as well as our company. You may, for instance, return unsold copies, but you’ll be responsible for the cost of return delivery, since we paid for the original delivery to you.

This is a great opportunity to run your own meaningful micro-business, part-time, with a superb and much-needed product, backed by South African Conversations. It is a win-win: you help us get this book into the right hands and we’ll do everything reasonable to support you in return.

The Small Print
  • The Ambassador Programme is not open to businesses, retailers or wholesalers.
  • You will receive an invoice for the full quantity you select for your first order.
  • A deposit is required before your order is dispatched.
  • The balance is due within 30 days of the invoice date.
  • If you have not sold your full order within 30 days, please contact us before the payment due date to discuss your options. These include:
    • Extending your payment deadline
    • Getting help with a promotional strategy
    • Returning any unsold copies for a refund of the deposit paid, a credit to your invoice – or both – depending on how many books you return.
      • Returns for credit or a refund must be requested in writing via WhatsApp or email.
      • Any books returned must be undamaged, fit for resale, and returned within 45 days of the invoice date.
      • The courier cost to return the books to us will be for your account.
  • You may not place a new order until the previous one is fully paid for.
  • To earn commission on orders placed on our website, your name must be listed as the referring party. We will deposit 30% of the price paid (excluding VAT and courier costs) into your bank account within 5 days of the client’s payment reflecting in our account.
  • Ambassadors are not entitled to commission on future orders (e.g. of new editions or reprints) if the sale is negotiated directly between the company and the client. If you initiate and handle the sale, you will earn the commission.
  • Ambassadors may not be employed by the buyer.
  • We reserve the right to refuse to sponsor a booth or table at a fair, market or event if:
    • You previously underperformed at this venue.
    • The venue attracts too few visitors.
    • The booking fee is exorbitant.
  • Want to go big? Talk to us about becoming a Sales Agent for all South African Conversations products. Your success with this one product could open the door to a much larger opportunity.
Who Is This For?

Ideal Ambassadors Include:

  • Social workers, NPO staff, teachers, nurses, librarians, human resource officers, public servants, community workers and faith leaders.
  • Influencers, bloggers or grassroots activists with a trusted voice in their communities.
  • People who are passionate about empowerment, information access or social justice – who want to earn an income by doing something meaningful.

Who Needs the Book?
The Resource Directory is for anyone trying to find solutions, services or support across South Africa – especially in resource-poor communities that often lack meaningful internet access. People buy the book:

  • For their own families
  • For their domestic workers
  • For low-income employees
  • For NPO staff – especially social workers
  • For their church community workers
  • For those who serve humanity

It belongs in the hands of:

  • Grandmothers
  • Teachers
  • Nurses and doctors
  • Librarians and students
  • Social workers, councillors, church ministers
  • HR professionals and CSI managers
  • Government departments and community offices
  • Concerned citizens who want to help

If you’re unsure, visit the Directory page to flip through sample pages and read how others are using the book, and why they recommend it. Better still, engage with the copy you bought for yourself. You’ll quickly understand why it’s called ‘a printed Google for South Africa’ – and why it’s such a valuable resource for our country.

Register as an Ambassador!

But please do so only after you have ordered your own copy of the Resource Directory.
