This opportunity is available only to registered NPOs and venues in historically disadvantaged communities, including townships, informal settlements, inner cities and rural areas.

The NPO or venue must be able to prepare and serve healthy food safely, working with a small budget to support Community Conversations attendees during a two-hour event on the first Sunday of every month.

This is not a job, but a collaborative social-entrepreneurial opportunity to create both impact and income within communities. Your role contributes to a team effort where each participant plays a crucial part in making these Conversations happen.

Can you commit to preparing and serving food for one Community Conversation event on the first Sunday of each month?*

This includes being available for roughly 3 hours on that day, between 13:30 and 16:30 to set up, serve and wrap up after the event. This is an ongoing commitment, not a once-off event.

Community Conversations rely on consistent monthly participation from each team member. You’re welcome to return and register later if your circumstances change.

Catering Budget Acknowledgement*

I understand that the catering budget depends on at least one confirmed advertising partner. If no advertiser is secured, I will not prepare or serve food. The minimum available budget is R1,000 per event, based on 30 attendees. If fewer than 30 people attend, payment will be adjusted based on the attendance register. I understand that payment will only be made after the event, once the advertiser has paid South African Conversations. I agree to plan the menu with the team facilitator based on expected attendance and available funding. For the first event, I agree to make a plan to provide something affordable, such as fresh fruit, to ensure sustainability going forward.

Donations Notice

We encourage NPO Caterers or Venues to place a donations notice on the food table. This gives those who can afford it a chance to support the NPO’s work without pressuring anyone else. The sign could say:

"This food is offered with love. Donations are welcome but not expected."

Confidentiality and Non-Competition Clause*

The Community Conversations model, materials and methods are the exclusive property of South African Conversations. They may not be copied, adapted or used for any other purpose — including to run similar events under a different name or organisation — without prior written permission. All materials are confidential and may not be shared or distributed outside this initiative without written permission from South African Conversations.

I understand and agree that: • I provide services at my own risk, and South African Conversations cannot be held liable for any damages, losses, or claims arising from Community Conversations events, including issues related to food preparation, distribution, or personal injury. • South African Conversations is not responsible for unforeseen circumstances, including cancellations, disruptions, or incidents. • Payment for my services is contingent on an advertiser having paid South African Conversations after the event. • I release South African Conversations from any claims, liabilities, or damages related to my role and participation in this collaboration.
